ECO-BIOMAXX™ Biobased Polyurethanes

Completely Biodegradable and Non-Toxic

Increasing concerns about the environmental impact of plastic waste are fueling efforts towards a circular plastic economy. Currently, 79% of all plastic produced ends up in landfills or the environment, 12% is incinerated, and 9% is recycled.

Bioplastics that are 100% biobased offer great promise for circular economies by using renewable resources, a lower carbon footprint, biodegradation, and enhanced material properties.

Bezwada Biomedical has developed biobased polyurethanes that undergo biodegradation at tunable rates.

Our innovation of completely hydrolysable hard segments yields these potential product attributes:

  • Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint
  • Physically Tunable
  • Controlled Degradation Profile
  • Tunable Mechanical Properties
  • Safe and Biodegradable
  • No Toxic Byproducts
  • Biocompatible

Biobased Biodegradable Polyurethanes

Bezwada Biomedical’s biodegradable polyurethanes are suitable for a variety of applications because of their versatile design features. They can be made transparent or opaque, stiff or flexible, and even water-soluble or water resistant.

Our large inventory of degradable isocyanates includes amino acid derived from alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, gamma amino butyric acid, glycine, glutamic acid, valine, lysine, isoleucine, leucine, and ornithine.

Apart from hydrolysable isocyanates, isocyanates can also be derived from functionalized natural oil polyols. This type of biopolyols can be derived from vegetable oils such as castor oil, soybean oil, canola oil, palm oil, linseed oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil, mustard oil, and olive oil. The most common source is castor oil, which naturally contains hydroxyl groups (see examples below).

The degradation profile of our biobased polyurethanes is precisely engineered through the chemical composition of the isocyanate linkers and the polyols used in the soft segments, while it can be further tuned by adjusting chain lengths and linkages.

Bezwada Biomedical’s biobased biodegradable polyurethanes combine several key characteristics: environmental friendliness, versatility, mechanical properties, degradation rate, and biocompatibility. Schedule a call with our R&D director to discuss your biobased polyurethane application.
