Controlled Drug Delivery

Imagine an absorbable polymer where the drug molecule is part of the polymer backbone, which upon hydrolysis releases the drug molecule at the site of action in a controlled manner without the use of any excipient. At Bezwada Biomedical, we not only imagined it, we have turned it into reality. We are pleased to offer a portfolio of drug molecules functionalized with safe and biocompatible molecules such as lactic and glycolic acid for technical evaluation and product development. These functionalized drugs can be used to prepare absorbable drug delivery polymers with the potential to answer unmet customer needs.

Key features and benefits of these drug delivery polymers include:

  • Drug molecule is a part of polymer backbone resulting in delivery of highly effective and potent dose
  • Completely hydrolysable into safe and biocompatible products and drug molecule as such at the site of action
  • Tunable rate of release leading to no-burst effects in delivery
  • No need to use excipients or solubility modifiers
  • Gamma and EtO sterilizable

Key Applications

  • Advanced Wound Repair
  • Sports Injuries
  • Topical analgesic and anti-inflammatory creams
  • Medical Device Coatings
  • Arthritis and Pain management
  • Veterinary applications

Localized, delayed, and prolonged drug release is highly desirable in the delivery of many therapeutics. Biodegradable polymers are used for controlled drug release to the buccal mucosa in oral applications, the central nervous system, to brain tumors through intracranial implantations, the vasculature through drug eluting stents and grafts, spinal fusion surgeries, and wound sites.

In orthopedic and spinal applications, bone morphogenetic protein-2 and other growth factors are often delivered through local and sustained release for bone regeneration to injured or diseased bones. In wound healing, antimicrobial drugs, analgesics, and hemostatic agents are often delivered to wound sites and through burn wound dressings.

Each controlled drug release indication has specific requirements that require flexibility and innovation in the medical device design. Bezwada’s expertise and product breadth are well-suited for meeting the most stringent design requirements.
